Hard Life (Mexican Cactus Fly) - Copestylum mexicana

Hard Life (Mexican Cactus Fly) - Copestylum mexicana
Fullerton Arboretum, Fullerton, Orange County, California, USA
November 9, 2007
I've shot a lot of flies, and this is the only one I've noticed with torn-up eyes. Haven't I been looking closely enough, or is this the rarity I expect?

I have got to get a better lens!
Looks very painful!

Maybe it should rename itself to Mexican Daisy Fly and avoid the cactus!

Yeah, daisies are a lot softer.
Lens is 180mm Sigma macro with 1.4x teleconverter.
