Size: Approx. 1/2 in. long
I believe this may turn out to be an Eristalinus of some sort. Any confirmation?

Not the same
I assume these are not the same specimen. Red eyes v white eyes

 
I Think You're Right
Sorry about that, but the wind was gusting about 30 to 40 at times and I had a hard time keeping up with my subjects as they flew from one flower to another. I thought I had tracked this one to where it landed, but apparently not. Thanks for noticing that for me! Sometimes it's a pain not being to see colors. I'll unlink them, but I bet they turn out to be the same species. I hope I got that right, at least!

Which can be really close to Eristalinus. I'll look at this one again later. Glad to see you posting so many syrphids! (Those and bee flies are my faves.)

Looks like a Syrphid, but it is a Calliphorid. Looks like Cochliomyia to me.....

 
I'm having a bad fly day.
Thought the head looked oddly sized for a syrphid.
