Harvestman Feeding - Leiobunum nigropalpi - male

Harvestman Feeding - Leiobunum nigropalpi - Male
Elysburg, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, USA
July 10, 2007
A Harvestman feeding on a moth. Judging from the length of the pedipalps, I believe this is a male. Please correct if wrong. Also, I came across this individual while it was feeding so I don't know if the moth was scavanged or caught.

Moved
Moved from Leiobunum.

adult male; femur, patella & tibia of palps black. see here:

excellent photo!!

Family Sclerosomatidae, Leiob
Family Sclerosomatidae, Leiobunum. Probably either L. nigropalpi or L. nigripes. I wouldn't be confident about its sex without opening the genital operculum.

Palps are only sometimes good indicators of sex with harvestmen (unlike spiders).

Thanks
Thanks for the info, Charles. I don't really know a whole lot about these creatures other than the fact that we have loads of them in our area.
