beautiful beetle, caught crawling on a pine tree. reminds me of desomcerus.

Spelling error
The correct spelling for the species should be D. auripennis.

I hope this is NOT the endangered one, the "Valley elder borer." It is state listed at the least, if not federally listed....

This is correct as the male Desmocerus auripennis. When alive they have beautiful vermillion elytra. Unfortunate they fade rather quickly. I find that kill with cyanide hastens the fading process.
