whats the host plant
Do you know what they were feeding on? It almost looks like willow in your photo. These are oak specialists and also feed on a few other plants, but I never heard of willow being one. Just curious. By the way, neat pictures, I love coming across these guys.

I have little memory
about what it was on. It was a small bush of some sort (the photo suggests maybe a southern waxy myrtle. However, i do know there are no willows on my property.

I am still new enough at bug photography, that I really get excited about capturing the bugs and forget to note what plants they were on or what sizes they were (other than tiny, small, medium or large, lol) unless I get it to crawl onto my finger. I will make a concentrated effort to be more aware of the details around the bugs from now on.

yes
Well I've never heard of this species feeding on waxy myrtle before, but the hostplant looks like a match. Maybe a new record, but it could have gotten on that plant for any number of reasons. Anyway, keeping an eye on your surroundings always is a good thing to do.
