black and grey Stiletto Fly - Ozodiceromyia

black and grey Stiletto Fly - Ozodiceromyia
Fort Bragg, Cumberland County, North Carolina, USA
April 25, 2005
Looks very similar to another I photographed...

Ozodiceromyia argentata?
Thanks to our new expert I'm making a guess at this one.

probably right
Your probably right, but one of the characters to separate the females of this species from O. notata is on the frons (not visible), where the black and silver parts touch beside the antenna. Without that view, it could be either O. argentata or O. notata. Both are very common eastern species.

Stiletto fly
It is indeed a stiletto fly.
