Hello,

I photographied that Rhagionidae fly last July at Sherbrooke, Quebec (near Vermont)...

Is it possible to identify the genus and species???

Not an expert
But it looks as though a lot of these haven't been IDed below genus so far (on BugGuide). Any way yours looks like this one in genus Rhagio

The huge PDF file downloadable from here may help you narrow the species in your region??? https://drum.umd.edu/dspace/handle/1903/1684?mode=full It just made my head spin :-)

Finally I agree with you and it is for sure Rhagio sp...

I doubted that it could be R. tringarius but found no trace of it in North America... Thank you very much for that so interesting file. I keep the link within my favorite...

And yes, the picture you are showing me is identical to mine! :-)
