Sage's insect - Neodiprion - male

Sage's insect - Neodiprion - Male
Ennis, Madison County, Montana, USA
September 7, 2007
Size: less than one cm in lengt
This insect has two pairs of wings and a metallic-colored body. It's antennae are "feathery".

Moved
Moved from Conifer Sawflies.

Neodiprion sp.
Male. The only diprionid genus known in Montana.

Dipriondi Sawfly (Diprionidae) - male
As primary host-plants for this group are coniferous trees, I think doubtful this species' larvae grow on Sage bushes.

I'm guessing Sage is a young lady.
:-)

OOPS!
Thank you for the correction, Ron!
