March Fly - Bibio - female

March Fly - Bibio - Female
Mountville, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, USA
April 26, 2005
Size: 3/4 inch
I am not sure if this is a Dipteran or not. I am not familiar with this insect. It has an extremely small head in comparison with the body. Any help on ID?

Yes Diptera, family Bibionidae
Yes, it is a Dipteran allright.
It is a female from the family Bibionidae (March flies), possibly even in the genus Bibio!
Greetings,
Gerard Pennards
