Size: Approx 3cm
I'm not sure if this is a pupa or something else. It was attached to a rose bush near a marshy area. It had a "seam" down the midline, which you can see at the bottom edge.

Michael is right that is a praying mantis ootheca/egg case

Debbie, I'm not sure but it looks an aweful lot like a praying mantis egg case....I don't know what the white covering is...maybe a mold of some kind...hopefully some one else can help out with more info.
