Weird Bug - Pyractomena

Weird Bug - Pyractomena
Hixson, Hamilton County, Tennessee, USA
My dad found this on his house a couple years ago and just showed me the photo. I've never seen anything like it. I'm assuming it's a larva, but of what?

Date of observation
is December - but that is the submission date. Thus the table for observations reads that a firefly was observed in TN in Dec. -- that got me very curious. So this observation date should be changed. The submitter did not specify any date.... Thanks!

Oh good point
I'll remove the date until I can get an answer from him, if I can... Thanks!

Wow
Thank you! =)

Firefly larva.
This is most likely the larva of a firefly, family Lampyridae. It should have had light-emitting segments near the tail, on the underside.

That sure looks like it!
Thanks so much for solving our mystery! =) Considering how many of the adults I see flying around in the summer here, I'm surprised I've never seen one of these. I guess they hide during the day?
