Chalcolepidius.
Genus is easy: Chalcolepidius. Not so sure of species. I have heard these beetles are attracted to oozing desert broom (Baccharis sp.), and easily mistaken for the blue cricket hunter wasp.

This is a great species to see in the wild. I first encountered them in the mesquite forest as you approach Madera Canyon at the end of July. You have to be careful when handling them as the irridescent green pubescence is easily rubbed off. Hopefully they will be out when the group gets together.
