Villa fulviana

Villa fulviana
Hurricane Hill, ~5700 ft., Olympic National Park, Clallam County, Washington, USA
August 13, 2007
Looks like a fairly fresh specimen of Villa fulviana , but I don't know whether there are other, similar spp. in the Olympics.

Moved
Moved from Villa.

Wow
I confirm it: Wow!

Thanks, Andy -
Next summer I'll be looking for them up in the Olympics.

Wow
This is a really striking fly. It is almost certainly something close to V. fulviana (and may be that species), but I've never seen a Villa with so much red. All of the Western V. fulviana I've looked at have been very yellow.

Yes, and when I went to the Olympics,
I hadn't even thought of bee flies. They were a great bonus!
I wonder how well the red preserves in mounted specimen, also whether there might be a paling with age, as in some Lordotus.
