Paravilla - Paravilla syrtis

Paravilla - Paravilla syrtis
Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area, Irwindale, Los Angeles County, California, USA
April 28, 2007
Pretty sure of genus (though I'd be happy with comments one way or other). After a minute this fly landed in an adjacent Encelia californica (see companion photo).

ID
I would say this is the spring form of P. syrtis, but I'm not sure yet.

at least a tentative ID. I wondered why this sp. name sounded familiar, found it again in the old Cole & Schlinger, though just a mention that it is known from southern counties of California.
