Bee - Eristalis

Bee - Eristalis
Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara County, California, USA
November 22, 2007
Figueroa Mountain, at higher elevation.

Not a bee...
but a fly. It's a syrphid fly of some type. I'm not sure of the species. Eristalis? Maybe Arbustorum?

Agreed on Eristalis
Looks a lot like E. dimidiata, which I haven't seen myself but think may be only eastern. Anyone know for sure?

(I don't think it's E. arbustorum and believe you need a face shot to confirm that anyway.)

Eristalis
I'd leave at genus
