Syrphid Fly? - Pelecinobaccha costata

Syrphid Fly? - Pelecinobaccha costata
Norfolk, Virginia, USA
December 2, 2007
Size: 12mm
This looks like a Syrphid fly. I was surprised to see it in December, but temps had warmed up to around 60 degrees F that day. Got a few shots before it flew away.

Moved from Ocyptamus.

Pelecinobaccha costata
This is Pelecinobaccha costata. It has the distinctive abdomen marking and the dark apical wing section.

Fine work, Kevin
Bet we have a lot of Ocyptamus mislabeled, including some by me.

Well
In this case I would think more about a female Ocyptamus, but I don't know which species!
Greetings

Ocyptamus costatus
Maybe? I could not get a shot of it with its wings open.

Nice find, Scott
Check these:

Platycheirus

Eumerus

Platycheirus
My specimen looks similar. Eumerus seems to have a stockier appearance.
