To the victor go the spoils - Entypus unifasciatus

To the victor go the spoils - Entypus unifasciatus
Fairfield, Wayne County, Illinois, USA
July 28, 2007
I was taking the kitchen scraps out to the compost pile when there was a buzzing under one of the railroad ties that compose its walls and two wasps tumbled out striking me on the leg. Thankfully they were more interested in tangling with each other than in attacking me.

They finally disengaged and this one (Eutypus unifasciatus - Aunt Eunice hereafter) dove back under the rail and disappeared. Curious, I was just stooping down to look under it when she reappeared carrying this wolf spider.

Eunice had no problems hauling it up and over the three rails that are stacked around the compost, hauling backwards as other contributers have noted.

On the other side . . .
