Orgy at the old sawmill?

Orgy at the old sawmill?
Fairfield, Wayne County, Illinois, USA
July 29, 2007
Hauling 20 year-old sawdust from a sawmill and stumbled onto this mass of millipedes. The sawdust bank was damp from seepage so I'm not clear as to whether they are feeding, seeking the moisture, or congregating for "reproductive purposes."

I saw this once
after a lot of rain in NC. I have a feeling it has something to do with the moisture.....but not sure.
