May 16, 1985
Size: ca. 10mm
Eulonchus smaragdinus is one of the most beautiful species in the group. The color ranges from metallic green to blue to purple, and with the bright yellow legs and golden pile it is quite the showy fly. They are fairly common in the Inner Coast Range of California, but have been noted from Baja Norte to eastern California. The diagnostic characters are the bright yellow legs and curved proboscis.
