Three Lined Potato Beetle - Lema daturaphila - male - female

Three Lined Potato Beetle - Lema daturaphila - Male Female
Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
June 18, 2004
Size: 6 - 6.5 mm
There were several mating pairs of these beetles on a small cluster of nightshade plants.

Lema trilinea - three lined potato beetle
Not quite sure where you got the L. trilineata/daturaphila name. As far as I know L. trilinea is correct for New England.

Eric Eaton reported the name change.
See the discussion here. I was quite content with trilineata.

A google search yielded the following numbers of references:
Lema trilineata = 640
Lema trilinea = 163
Lema daturaphila = 196

Lema daturaphila is correct
I checked the Catalog of Leaf Beetles of America North of Mexico (Riley, Clark, and Seeno, 2003, Coleop. Soc. Spec. Publ. No. 1), and the priority of Lema daturaphila Kogan and Goeden over the other names is apparently first established there (for those who are interested). Bottom line is that L. daturaphila is the correct name for the three-line potato beetle (=L. trilineata, L. trilinea). Now I must change my database.

Thanks, Don.
I was awaiting your response before changing anything.
