Cyrtolobus lateralis - Xantholobus lateralis - female

Cyrtolobus lateralis - Xantholobus lateralis - Female
Wildwood, St. Louis County, Missouri, USA
May 20, 2001
Size: 7.2mm
Taken at mercury-vapor lamp in mesic upland oak-hickory forest.

I placed this in the genus Xantholobus but noticed 'muticus' is placed in Cyrtolobus on this site. Has Xantholobus been suppressed?

Moved
Moved from Cyrtolobus. All the references I see on the Internet, of which there are not many, list this as Xantholobus lateralis. Perhaps mutica/muticus (guide here) should be in this genus too. Maybe Andy Hamilton will comment at some point.

We can always move either species guide to another genus if need be, so it is no big deal either way.

"Xantholobus"
This genus is defined by slight inflations at the sides of the pronotum just behind the crest. As such, it is at best a subgenus of Cyrtolobus, which is the way it was originally described by Van Duzee in 1908.

Thanks for the photos. I have not seen this species before.

OK, will move species
OK, the way I understand it, you feel we should move species lateralis to Cyrtolobus. I will do so, and list the synonymy. I edited the caption of this image to conform as well.

A wonderful series of images in this group--thanks!
