Twin-dotted Macrochilo Moth - Macrochilo hypocritalis

Twin-dotted Macrochilo Moth - Macrochilo hypocritalis
Bear, New Castle County, Delaware, USA
July 29, 2007

Your ID looks good to
me when I compared to other photos Such As.

Not sure, but the terminal line seems to be broken more-so in M. hypocritalis than with M. absorptalis. Also, PM line doesn't seem as straight as it should be for M. absorptalis.

Hope Bob P. will add his thoughts here.

Gary

Macrochilo
I like Macrochilo hypocritalis as well. In hypocritalis the ST line stops just shy of the apex (actually stopping against the distal edge just below the apex), whereas in absorptalis, it reaches the apex.

Thank you
Thank you for the ID. I added your information to the species page.

M. hypocritalis
Gary, thanks for your thoughts. The one thing that is puzzling me is that Larry Line's website list M. hypocritalis as Hodges#8361.1 whereas MPG has it as Hodges#8357.1. I am hopeful that BP will solve both the species ID and Hodges number difference. Thanks again, Ted

Quickly checked
a couple other sites and they show Hodges #8357.1.
