Gonatopus mimoides - female

Gonatopus mimoides - Female
Lake Kaweah, Tulare County, California, USA
September 21, 1994
Size: 3.5 mm.
This toothy structure is actually the fifth tarsal segment with a lateral extension that matches against the enlarged claw when the two hinge closed. It connects to the fourth tarsal segment on the far left. Weird stuff!
