Plume Moth - Lioptilodes albistriolatus
Kenner, Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, USA
December 25, 2007
My first plume moth. Had to work Christmas day and it turned out to be slow so I grabbed the camera...

Winter finally arrived in south Louisiana - 41 degrees.

This guy landed on a bush near me and ended up as my subject... I figure it should be easy for somebody with a little knowledge to ID this one. Most of the images of plume moths that I found don't show the segmented body like this one does. I am guessing Stenoptilodes brevipennis but...

This is Lioptilodes albistrio
This is Lioptilodes albistriolatus (=parvus). Notice that the wings in this species are held at an angle instead of the usual flat "T" - this makes it really hard to get the whole moth in focus. The forewing is also folded so only the first lobe shows.
