Tanaocerus koebelei - female

Tanaocerus koebelei - Female
Granite Mountains, San Bernardino County, California, USA
March 30, 2003
Only two species of this unusual family occur in southern California. This is the more common of the two, and can be found in rocky desert areas during spring. Adults are completely wingless. I photographed this female on the rocky slopes of the Granite Mountains during late morning. Males were attracted to a blacklight at night, and another female was taken from creosote bush.
