Wasp to identify please... - Dolichovespula adulterina
Vermont, USA
July 28, 2007
Hello, Ouf, those hymenoptera! Not easy for a newbie like me!
Here are 2 pictures of a wasp photographied last July in Vermont...
Someone can help me to identify it?
Could it be a male Dolichovespula arctica???
Any idea?? Thank you very much for your help...

well, yes...
it looks like a male dolichovespula adulterinia(same as D. artica), the parasitic yellowjacket, but it could also be a male blackjacket, vespula consobrinia. im not good at telling the two apart...

This is a male Dolichovespula adulterina arctica
Shape of pronotum, clearly visible on both these very good pics, rules out Vespula consobrina.

Bonjour Richard :-) Thank
Bonjour Richard :-)

Thank you very much for your confirmation of my identification!

It will then be a male Dolichovespula arctica :-)

Merci encore!
