Fly - Drab color, interesting shape - Paragus

Fly - Drab color, interesting shape - Paragus
Santa Clara County, California, USA
November 7, 2007
The legs are very long, eyes large with a lot of hair towards the front, the waist is constricted and very flat. It has a projection on the forward part of the face, a long mouth part that is retracted, maybe?

And
You are right Ron, I do know this one! :-))
Well, at least the genus that is, because without looking at the genitalia it's practically impossible to determine the species!
It's a male Paragus sp.!
greetings,

Thanks guys!
Paragus! It seems to lack some of the elegance of other members of the genus but I am glad you could help!

A guess: Copestylum
That's based on the face, which is pretty distinctive, tho I can't see much of it.

Antennae on these run from plain to fancy; yours are about mid spectrum. Interesting fly!

I'll bet Gerard knows this one.

It looks like you have photographed a similar paragus species...
...The rainbow color on the wings was very similar, along with the large sized head --->
