Catocala cf. allusa - Catocala

Catocala cf. allusa - Catocala
Green Mountain Rd., 4.2 km NE of Hwy. 3A, Okanagan-Similkameen, British Columbia, Canada
September 9, 2007
One of the few Catocala sp. that actually landed on the sheet. They usually approach lights, but never land, disappearing into the night... I'm not sure what species it is. The specimen had red underwings (if that is of any help).

Catocala
This is most likely Catocala allusa, # 8809. There is another species in your area, C. unijuga, which is very similar and can be confused with allusa. (You can see an image of the two together here.) However, all the transverse lines on the specimen in your photo indicate allusa.
