Explanation of Names

From Greek pleura, the side.

Identification

pleuron noun, pluural pleurae, adjective pleural - lateral plates (sclerites) of a segment; lateral equivalents of the tergae; lateral surfaces of the segments, also called pleurites.

pleural - Pertaining to the lateral surfaces of the segments.

pleural region - the region separating the upper and ventral arcs, formed by the tergites and sternites, of a segment.
