This is my first winter of shooting insect macros and I am missing the absence of most of them. Will B. vosnesenskii appear throughout the winter, or will they become dormant for months at a time? I can't imagine there will be tons of flowers blooming...

I agree with B. vosnesenskii. B. californicus has black fur on the face. I think the type locality for B. vosnesenskii is northern CA.
