Walking stick, stilt bug? - Barce fraterna - male

Walking stick, stilt bug? - Barce fraterna - Male
New York City, Queens County, New York, USA
August 28, 2007
Found walking on the ceiling in my hallway. At first I thought it was a baby walkingstick but I've only ever seen one here in NYC. Then up close I noticed it's front two legs resembled those of a praying mantis including how it held them up (also has small spines like a mantis). Also the head reminded me of some of the true bugs. Any ideas?

Looks like Thread-legged Bugs (Emesinae), but I'm not sure

Yeah
Yeah definitely looked like the first picture in Genus Barce, thanks!

Emesinae
I LOVE these guys -- I've found several around spiderwebs. Apparently, they are kleptoparasites of the spider's prey!

Make sense
That would explain why it was in my hallway, for someone reason I get a lot of sac spiders and house spiders in there among others.

And...
...this is a male Barce.
