Membracidae - Umbonia crassicornis

Membracidae - Umbonia crassicornis
Big Cypress, Collier County, Florida, USA
December 26, 2004
These Membracidae were on a twig of a bottlebrush. This picture I took on the second day of observing them. I think that these were the females and the nymphs. I believe the male (picture linked) was farther down the branch. Does anyone know what genus this is?

Nice Thornbug Photo!
Nice photo of the very cool Thornbug, Umbonia crassicornis. South Florida is its only USA locale.

The Thornbug is a Featured Creature at the Univeristy of Florida: http://creatures.ifas.ufl.edu/orn/thorn_bug.htm

Thanks for the link to the pictures and the information. I'll definitely have to read up on this species to see if I can figure out what behavior I saw.
