Identification
ecdysis noun, adjective ecdysial - molting of the arthropod cuticle, the outer, fairly stiff layer, essentially, the exoskeleton. Since the exoskeleton of an arthropod is rather rigid, it must be shed as the creature grows. A freshly-molted arthropod is called teneral. The remnants of the old exoskeleton are called exuviae.
