Lacinipolia explicata
-
Marlton, Burlington County, New Jersey, USA
August 27, 2007
Size: Maybe around 25 mm?
I suspect that this is also one of the Arches (Genus Lacinipolia). Any idea which one? Seems very different the my other one

Lacinipolia
Yes, this is
Lacinipolia explicata
- probably a freshly eclosed specimen given the the rich, dark color and fresh appearance. Of particular note in this species to distinguish it from
implicata
, is the thoracic scaling.
L.implicata
has all green thoracic scaling. Also,
explicata
has brown coloration inside the reniform spot and along the AM line.

L. explicata - seeking help
Apologies for adding to this comment 7.5 years later; I saw it while researching this image
which I recently added to BG (ID request). I think this also may well be an L. explicata, and if so it would extend the range further into New England. Your opinion would be much appreciated.

No worries
It's never too late to comment. On your image, I would agree with your assessment of
explicata
.

Jason: Many thanks
If it's OK with you, I will add your endorsement to my image and move it to L. explicata.

I'm going with explicit on th
I'm going with explicit on this one also--mostly b/c of the broadness of the dark coloration in the dark section. Implicit arches seems to get much thinner to almost absent as the dark section heads toward the center area--although, I have to say I'm conflicted b/c the lower of the two forewing spots his more filled in on this one, as opposed to dotted with brown.
I'm definite on this one... you're right that it's one of the arches!
8;)

I looked at the range for explicit arches and it says S.E. US... so now I'm second guessing myself and thinking implicit? Ugh.
