Another black Ichneumon wasp - Pelecinus polyturator - male

Another black Ichneumon wasp - Pelecinus polyturator - Male
Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada
August 9, 2006
This would have been a good shot if it were in focus. However, it's just another tiny black Ichneumon. No ovipositor, so it must be a male.

Pelecinus polyturator, male
This is definitly a male Pelecinidae. There is extreme sexual dimorphism on the abdomen. There is also only one species with worldwide distribution, Pelecinus polyturator.

Male pelecinid
Wow! That summer (2006) I also saw and photographed 3 different females (or maybe the same one three times): 8 and 24 August and 9 September, all in or around my yard. Thanks for the id.
