The serpentine pattern is distinctive for this species as is the green coloration in live specimens. No other species of Calligrapha in NA is such colored.

The beautiful green color only lasts while the insect still has water in the tissues. Once it dries the wavelength changes and they turn tan. In Arizona I mostly see this green color, but in west Texas they are primarily orange with the occasional green specimen.

Coloration in Texas
I have scores of these beetles in my yard every summer. During the first couple of months after they appear the beetles are green in color. This is not an unusual occurence by a long shot--in fact, I see less of them wearing their tan color than green. I have also observed them showing a bright rust-red color. Will post photos as soon as I can locate the disk they're on.
