Katydid?

Katydid?
manton, shasta County, California, USA
August 30, 2007
Size: 3/4-1"
Found at about 2,880 feet. Mixed woodland. Onporch.

I'm far from certain
but this looks like perhaps Idionotus siskiyou to me. I can't see detail well, but are those short wings behind the pronotum? If so, this is an adult male.

Maybe
Maybe Eastern Shieldbacks (Atlanticus)?
If so maybe this will help you ID

Brilliant:-)
If only Atlanticus 'occured' in California....LOL! At least you are on the right track. This is a male of some kind of shield-backed katydid, of which several genera and many endemic species occur in California.

Woops
I was so busy trying to match the bug, I missed the location. It does explain my lack of success though! :-)
