Fossil Trichoptera Case SRIC 01
Klondike Mountain Formation, 49 milliion years old, Ferry County, Washington, USA
Size: 17 mm long
Along with the trichoptera wings which are, while uncommon, are found at the fossil site, trichoptera larval cases are found also. These are as common as the wings if not more common, albiet unrecognized for what they are by diggers and so discarded.

This specimen is of the most common composition, that of pinus/sequoia/metasequoia needle bits. I am not sure if the cases are specific to one conifer genus or amixture of the three.

The environment which this specimen lived in was upland subtropical/temperate, think SE Asia and SE USA combined, subtropical mixed broad leaf forest with a strong coniferous segment
