Spotted-winged Grasshopper - Orphulella pelidna - Female
TEXDOT rest stop, Hwy. 281, approx. 14 mi S of Falfurrias, Brooks County, Texas, USA
November 5, 2007
Size: approx. 4 cm

Orphulella pelidna
Interesting specimen. Usually the wings are longer in this species; however, the slender form, pattern, fastigum, and apparent twice cut lateral "carina" of the pronotum all match up with O. pelidna and not O. speciosa. Also, the fact that it was with "normal" O. pelidna argues for guilt by association.
