Leafcutter Bees - Osmia bucephala - male - female

Leafcutter Bees - Osmia bucephala - Male Female
Delaware County, Pennsylvania, USA
May 7, 2005
Are these carpenter bees? Also, I am not sure if they ever successfully mated as the bee on top was rapidly moving its abdomen but the 2 bees abdomens never seemed to touch and stay connected. After a couple minuts they seperated and flew away (hopefully it wasn't my fault!)

Leafcutter bees.
Wonderful image of a pair of leafcutter bees. Not sure which genus this is. Pretty certain it is an atypical Megachile sp. I recall observing these in Cincinnati and they do cut leaf sections for the nest. Oh, male is on top here, female beneath.
