Identification
Adults:
epipleuron with no carina at the humeral angle (separates from Hygrotus)
metacoxal lobes not incised medially; hind (posterior) margins of metacoxal lobes generally straight or slightly angled medially

colouration generally dark on the elytra and ventral surface; some with pale markings on the dorsal surface
Habitat
lentic; usually at the shallow margins of ponds and other bodies of standing water; among emergent vegetation
