Found this guy on Argyranthemum frutescens in our garden. (live oak/chaparral habitat). Perhaps the same as ?

Suillia barberi (Darlington)
Gill (1962) comments: fore femora darkened, almost black; wings strongly infuscated along crossveins and ends of longitudinal veins and along costal margin; Abdomen reddish orange to reddish brown. According to Aldrich (1908) description: a brown ring at each end of hind tibia and distal part of fore tibia :-)

...for identifying all of these images as S. barberi! What is your opinion of this other fly which Gary photographed in the same location only two days after the image you identified on this post?



Also, I am trying to put together some data on this species for the Info page and I'm wondering if any of your references give a stated range?
