Red-Eyed Fly

Red-Eyed Fly
Herndon, Fairfax County, Virginia, USA
August 29, 2006
This fly was hanging out watching me take photos of some other bugs for a while, then allowed me to take several shots of it. It was night and I only noticed it there under the deck because I had a flashlight. I've never seen such a pale fly or such bright red eyes.

probably
genus Minettia.
