Explanation of Names
Author of genus is Latreille, 1802 (OSF). Possibly from Latin tetricus, taetricus, meaning harsh, sour (1), and/or from the species name of the Black Grouse, Tetrao tetrix. See discussion on the family page for the Tetrigidae.
