Armored Scale Insect, specifics unknown

Armored Scale Insect, specifics unknown
Hyattsville, Prince George's County, Maryland, USA
April 8, 2005
Size: 3 mm or so
Armored scale insect of uncertain type found on a beauty berry bush; I'd previously seen some on our blueberrys and have since seen one on a butterfly bush.

A wax scale?
I would guess that this is a wax scale (genus Ceroplastes) in the soft scales (family Coccidae). Although because this is small still, it also could be a young lecanium scale such as a young magnolia scale (Neolecanium cornuparvum).
