Size: ~10mm
Saw this fly on Argyranthemum frutescens in our garden, maybe a tachinid of some kind? (live oak/chaparral habitat).

For what it's worth
and it's not much (!), I agree with Tachinidae, mainly because of those dense, thick bristles on the abdomen...
