Formica sp. (fusca group) - worker
Example of an extensively reddish species of this group.
Several of them are widespread in CA, but maybe less so on this island off the Southern part of the "Golden State". This one is strikingly similar, and obviously related, to palaearctic F. rufibarbis.
I would lean for Formica moki, but confirmation by a North-American expert is needed.

I agree with Richard, it is
I agree with Richard, it is F. moki as it is only one of 2 spoecies of Formica known from the island. The other being Formica lasioides.
