Hi Tom,

I noticed this photo recently and remembered that there are no Gabrius species in the northeast with red elytra. If Don believes the protarsi to be slender enough to be Gabrius, this must be Bisnius instead.

Hi John
Don Chandler has the specimens, and when he can find a little time in this busy field season, he'll post his findings on what these 2 rove beetles are.
They looked like the same beetle to my untrained eye, and I linked them at first. Don saw something that made him think they're different genus.

Drat
I have one that looks like them both, and was trying to sort it out before I posted :-)

maybe. The protarsi need to be in focus, and I am not really sure. The image you have linked here is a member of another subfamily!

Added a close-up
of the front legs. Is that good enough, or should I take another shot?

Good
enough --> Gabrius.
