Female Field Katydid - Conocephalus brevipennis - female

Female Field Katydid - Conocephalus brevipennis - Female
Nashua, New Hampshire, USA
August 20, 2007
Size: 1 inch
These katydids inhabit the tall grasses bordering a marsh that's located next to our local airport ("Nashua Airport").
That sword-shaped structure for the uninitiated is the ovipositor (spelling?), used in egg-laying.
This photo shows one crawling on my enormous canvas bag I carry my exploration/collection supplies.

Meadow katydid.
I don't know what a "field katydid" is, but this is an adult female in the genus Conocephalus.

Conocephalus brevipennis?

wrong word
I used the wrong word ('field' instead of 'meadow'). ^U^'
