yellowjacket - Vespula flavopilosa - female

yellowjacket - Vespula flavopilosa - Female
Perry County, Pennsylvania, USA
This is either V. Vulgaris, or V. flavopilosa. can anyone tell which?

taken in September, 2004

Pretty sure this worker is a V. flavopilosa (Downy Yellowjacket)
Based on two features: - the blunt diamond-shaped black central spot on urotergite 1 (the same would have a distinctly sharper median angle in a V. vulgaris with similar pattern).
- the top of head and thorax lack the profuse black hairs typical of V. vulgaris.

Thanks for the
good tips on how to destinguish between them!

this one was giving me trouble, i just couldent tell which no matter how long i looked at it. thanks for the ID
